How Each Branch Scores Jobs

Once you can enlist, each branch combines your ASVAB section scores in its own way to decide which jobs are open to you. Pick a branch to see every job and the score it needs. Our GT score guide covers the score behind many technical jobs and officer programs.

U.S. Air Force

The Air Force (and Space Force) combines your section scores into four MAGE scores: Mechanical, Administrative, General, and Electrical. Each is reported as a percentile from 1 to 99, and each job (AFSC) sets a minimum on one or more of them.

Minimum AFQT: 31

U.S. Marine Corps

The Marine Corps combines your section scores into four line scores: General Technical (GT), Mechanical Maintenance (MM), Electronics (EL), and Clerical (CL). Each MOS sets a minimum on one or more of them. Recruits usually enlist into a program field and are assigned a specific MOS during training.
