Minimum AFQT: 31
The Army requires an AFQT of at least 31 to enlist. Applicants who score 21 to 30 can sometimes enlist through the Future Soldier Preparatory Course, which helps them raise their score before training.
How the Army Scores Jobs
The Army combines your ASVAB section scores into 10 line scores. Each MOS sets a minimum on one or two of them, so your line scores decide which jobs are open to you.
| Code | Score | Made from |
|---|---|---|
| GT | General Technical | VE + AR |
| CL | Clerical | VE + AR + MK |
| CO | Combat | AR + AS + MC |
| EL | Electronics | GS + AR + MK + EI |
| FA | Field Artillery | AR + MK + MC |
| GM | General Maintenance | GS + AS + MK + EI |
| MM | Mechanical Maintenance | AS + MC + EI |
| OF | Operators and Food | VE + AS + MC |
| SC | Surveillance and Communications | VE + AR + AS + MC |
| ST | Skilled Technical | GS + VE + MK + MC |
Army line scores average 100, and most people score between 60 and 140. Besides the main sections listed, the Army formula gives a small weight to your other sections too.
