ASVAB Score Calculator

Turn the standard scores on your ASVAB score report into your AFQT percentile and Army line scores

AFQT sections (required)

Technical sections (for line scores)

Standard scores run from about 20 to 80 (average 50). If your report lists VE, enter it and you can skip WK and PC.

How the AFQT Is Calculated

Your AFQT is not an average of your section scores. The official formula adds your Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge standard scores to twice your Verbal Expression (VE) score:

AFQT raw score = AR + MK + 2 × VE

VE is a weighted combination of Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension, with Word Knowledge counting more. The raw score is then converted to a percentile from 1 to 99 using the official 1997 national reference table. A percentile of 50 means you scored as well as or better than half of the 18 to 23 year-old reference group. This calculator uses that exact table, so its AFQT matches what the official conversion gives for the same standard scores.

Because VE counts twice, one point of verbal improvement moves your AFQT about as much as two points in math. See ASVAB scores explained for branch minimums and what each AFQT category means.

Army Line Scores

Army jobs use ten line scores built from your standard scores: GT (General Technical), CL (Clerical), CO (Combat), EL (Electronics), FA (Field Artillery), GM (General Maintenance), MM (Mechanical Maintenance), OF (Operators and Food), SC (Surveillance and Communications), and ST (Skilled Technical). They are scaled so 100 is average. GT uses its own published formula from AR and VE. The other nine use the official weighted formulas, which include small amounts of sections outside each score's main ingredients. Enter all the sections above (VE can replace WK and PC) to see all ten.

Other branches use their own composites, so the line scores here apply to the Army. Your AFQT percentile applies to every branch.

Where to Find Your Standard Scores

Your ASVAB score report lists a standard score for each section and for VE. Your recruiter can also give you these numbers. No score report yet? Take a free practice test. It estimates your standard scores with the same scoring pipeline as the real computer adaptive test, and a "Use My Last Practice Test" button then appears above to load them here.
