What a 1Z1X1 Does

Pararescuemen, known as PJs, recover isolated personnel from combat zones and disaster areas, often parachuting or diving in to reach them. They are trained as paramedics and in combat, mountain, and water rescue. The training pipeline is one of the toughest in the military, with demanding fitness tests and a long selection and qualification course.
